Multiculturalism in Communities
Communities in British Columbia are increasingly becoming more culturally, racially and linguistically diverse. This highlights the importance of promoting inclusive communities, where diversity is welcomed, accepted and embraced.

The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge is an annual national creative writing and artwork contest launched in 1996. The challenge encourages youth to discover how diversity has shaped Canada’s history and the important role that pluralism plays in Canadian society.
If you’re between the ages of 9 and 18, you can participate in the challenge. You’ll get to use your creative talents and discover how people from different backgrounds have helped make Canada what it is today.
Each year, three winners are selected from each age group (9–12, 13–15 and 16–18). The winners, accompanied by a parent/guardian, receive an all-expenses paid trip to Ottawa where they take part in an awards ceremony hosted by the federal Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.
More students take the challenge every year to learn about people who have contributed to the building of Canada.

The Racism. Stop It! National Video Competition is part of Canada’s March 21 campaign against racial discrimination.
If you are between 12 and 20 years old, you are eligible to enter the Racism. Stop It! National Video Competition. Create a video about your thoughts on eliminating racism. Ten videos will be chosen as winners and will be broadcast on national television, reaching millions of Canadians.
